Australian Canoe Polo Championships coming to Adelaide this Easter

Sat 31 March – Mon 2 April, Rowing SA Regatta Centre, Military Road West Lakes

Paddle SA Canoe Polo will host to the Australian Canoe Polo Championships from Saturday 31 March to Monday 2 April 2018, attracting over one hundred athletes from around the country.

The Championships will encompass the country’s finest athletes of all age categories from micro juniors (ten years and under) right through to Masters (5 years and over), taking place at the Rowing SA Regatta Centre West Lakes.

This is the first time the Championships have been held in Adelaide since 2011 and will include final selection for Australian Women and Men’s canoe polo teams that will compete at the 2018 World Canoe Polo Championships, Welland Canada in August.

Canoe Polo is a fast and exciting competitive ball sport played on water, where individual kayak paddlers work in teams of five to shoot a ball into a goal suspended two metres above the water.

Tactics of the sport make it exciting spectator viewing and include fast paced paddling, tackling an opponent’s kayak, rolling under water, passing the ball by hand or a paddle “flick”. Paddles can be used to intercept passes and block shots at goal.

The Australian Canoe Polo Championships are a free event for spectators, scheduled to commence at 8.30am each day.

DATE: Saturday 31 March – Monday 2 April 2018

TIME: Commencing 8.30am daily. The finals start at 1pm on Monday

VENUE: Rowing SA, 100 Military Road, West Lakes

About the Australian Canoe Polo Championships

The Australian Canoe Polo Championships are an annual sporting event that is regarded as the premier and largest participation sporting event for canoe polo in Australia.

The Championships are hosted by every state based canoeing discipline in Australia on a rotational basis. Athletes are selected to represent their home state or territory in the categories of micro junior (under 10 years), Junior (under 18 years), Open Men, Open Women, Veterans (over 35 years) and Masters (over 45 years).
